June is the kind of once-per-year miracle that we always look forward to, no matter what country we’re in. When you’re spending June in London though, you expect it to be phenomenal. 1. Trooping the Colour
The name is peculiar enough not to give out any hints to those unacquainted with the royal happenings in Britain, yet when June comes around it seems that everyone gets a whiff of this perennial tradition. Trooping the Colour is the parade that takes place in celebration of the Queen’s birthday, although we should clarify we’re not referring to her actual birthday. Rather, the official birthday of the British Sovereign, which has been celebrated in June for over 260 years. The astounding spectacle is made of 1400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians, who march with acute precision, making for a unique sight that hordes of Londoners, tourists and Britons gather up to enjoy.
2. Taste of London
London has a well-deserved reputation for its food offering, and Taste of London is the pinnacle of foodie events. From cooking demonstrations to nose tingling aromas, Regent’s Park plays host to 40 of London’s best restaurants! On June 22nd gather up the food lovers of your social circle, and head to one of the most intriguing spectacles of the summer!
3. ZSL Zoo Nights
One of London’s most loved annual attractions is back once more, and we’re glued to a screen waiting the release of the tickets (many because last year’s tickets sold out in a jiffy). The ambience of heading to London Zoo after hours is quite thrilling, and the variety of performances and events makes the experience all the more worthwhile.
4. Greenwich + Docklands International Festival
A part of the Royal Greenwich Festivals, the GDIF offers high quality arts and culture performances that vouch to enable all to take part and appreciate art in its many forms. Starting on the 21st of June and ending on July 6th, it’s considered one of London’s largest free outdoor festivals, and one that offers its visitors a great amount of food for thought.
5. London Tech Week
In a city that boasts a celebration of almost anything, it was highly unlikely that there would be a lack of some sort of tech event to be found. London Tech Week is the event of the year, amassing over 55 thousand visitors that are expected to arrive at London’s “largest crowd-sourced” technology festival. Are you going to be joining them?
6. Stanley Kubrick: The Exhibition
With ads taking over Central London’s tube stations, the Design Museum’s new exhibition has been much talked about among Londoners, and for good reason. Celebrating one of the 20th centuries greatest filmmakers, this exhibition was curated by people close to the mastermind himself and promises an inside look into Kubrick’s creative processes. Visitors will also have the opportunity to come close to the original props used for many of his movies, including the Shining and A Clockwork Orange (aka some of his most famed classics). We wouldn’t recommend leaving your ticket to the last minute though, as most dates have limited availability already!
